Hatha YogaWhat is Karma Yoga and what is a Karma Yogi? The word Karma can be defined as action, work, or service. Karma Yoga is often referred to as selfless service or unselfish action. This is work that you do, without any consideration of a reward.
Karma YogaWe cannot help the poor much, if we are also poor. You can perform selfless service (Karma Yoga), no matter how much money you have; but you cannot contribute food to the poor, if you are waiting in line at a soup kitchen.
Karma YogaMeditation means a continuous dehypnotizing from identification with body, mind, and name and from. It must start in everyday life. If you cannot be detached from the day-to-day activities, it will be difficult to enter into meditation. In order to sit for meditation, the mind must be detached and withdrawn from day to day concerns. The means for achieving this is Karma Yoga, or selfless service. It is the fundamental step on which meditation is built; no meditation is possible without it.
Indian scriptures state that every soul is divine and the ultimate purpose of human life is to experience the state of divinity. They all advocate four separate paths which are not mutually exclusive for attaining this goal. The path of devotion (Bhakthi Yoga) and the path of selfless service (karma yoga), the path of intellectual inquiry (Jnana yoga) as well as the path of meditation (Raja Yoga) are the four different paths.
One common thread among all Yoga practitioners is the desire to make the world around them a better place to live on all levels. Many Yoga teachers volunteer community time in selfless service or contribute to local charities.
